Solar technology went through several changes since they developed. Growth in solar PV technology has made the industry successful.
Updates on solar cell
Solar PV systems depend on soar cells that are the main focus of researchers. There are thousands of solar cells in solar PV array that convert sunlight into electricity. Most solar cells only covert 15 % of sunlight into electricity leaving the rest of 85% that strikes it. Researchers are always after finding new ways to increase the efficiency of solar cells.
Colloidal quantum dots
Recently a research group from University of Toronto discovered new nanoparticles named colloidal quantum dots. Scientists believe that these particles will make more efficient and flexible solar cell material that involves p-type and n-type semiconductors that can work outdoors. Panels made with this new solar cell technology were 8 percent more useful than before.
Gallium Arsenide for solar cells
Another research group at Imperial College University in London found gallium arsenide for making solar PV system. Researchers claim that the new material is 3 percent more efficient that the current solar panels
New development in energy storage
Scientists also consistently make experiments on new methods to save energy that solar panels produce. In the current method once the energy is converted into electricity it should be used instantly or it will be lost. Though high tech batteries are available in the market to store energy but they are expensive and don’t last for long.

Scientists discovered a new technology to store solar energy, named molten salt technology. In this process the scientist’s use inorganic salts that send the energy into solar thermal with the help of heat transfer fluid instead of oils. This technology enables solar plants function at more tahn500 degrees Celsius, producing more power output.
Another research group from Ohio state university has developed a new battery that is 20 times better and 25 percent cheaper than the current batteries. The battery is rechargeable and it’s built into the solar PV system instead of functioning as separately.
New Solar Cell technology
Scientists have also discovered new ways to manufacture solar components. Ninety percent solar panels have silicon semiconductors. But newly developed solar panels will have cadmium telluride coatings in solar cells. This new technology is much cheaper and more efficient than the old technology. Use of magnesium chloride during manufacturing of solar panels has made them more efficient. The technology is not only low cost but it’s also non-toxic and solar cells are 15 percent more efficient.
All these new methods have made the solar technology more efficient than before.
