We experience weather every day in all its wonderful variety. Most of the time it is familiar, yet it never repeats exactly. As winter approaches, the days get shorter and the weather typically fluctuates from warm spells during sunshine to significantly cooler nights.
While it’s difficult enough to match your wardrobe to the forecast, fluctuating weather patterns and changing temperatures can leave you feeling ill to boot. Falling sick is common with sudden weather changes, but there are some measures that you can take to ensure that you stay fit and healthy.
1. Stay hydrated:
Fresh fruit juices rich in vitamin C are a great way to start off the morning; the extra C-boost will kick your immunity-fighting ability into gear. If oranges are not available yet, try to add lemonade to your daily liquid intake to supplement your vitamin C quota. No matter what the weather is like, it is important to drink enough water and fresh fruit juices to stay hydrated. One of your bodies warning signs that you are getting dehydrated is the feeling of fatigue, so you might want to take a quick break & enjoy a glass of water. You could also add honey to soothe your throat. Water flushes out toxins and helps you absorb nutrients. Aim for two to three liters of water per day.
2. Clear the air:
Seasonal weather changes can aggravate allergy symptoms as pollens and molds start to float through the air. But did you know the air inside your home could be five times more polluted than the air outside? Installing a whole-home air filtration system can dramatically improve indoor air quality and set you off on the path to better health. Another much cheaper and highly effective method is to use a humidifier in your living area. It will settle the free flowing dust and allergens and will help clear your sinus at the same time.
3. Exercise often:
Staying active and getting fresh air works wonders for your health. Try and get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. Workout indoors if it is too cold or if you don't have enough time to hit the gym.
4. Get enough rest:
While working out is important, you also need to get sufficient amount of rest to feel refreshed and re-energized. Sleeping for 7-8 hours every day boosts your immune system and gets you prepared for the day ahead.
5. Dress right:
It is vital to change your wardrobe in accordance to the weather. As the climate change, the body’s regulation metabolism is caught unawares, resulting in illness. So it is important to either add or subtract layers.
